10 Tapping Tips

Whether you are preparing to join The World Tapping Circle, setting up to Tap for yourself, or
to be led by an EFT Practitioner, these tips are good guidelines to follow.

  1. How to Set up your Space for Tapping — To prepare yourself for an EFT session, take a moment to set up your environment for maximum privacy and comfort. A tidy space creates a visual sense of peace. If you can, quickly clean up and order your space. Of course, you may not always be able to do this as in case of spontaneous or emergency Tapping. However, the more you set up your space beforehand, the more supported you can feel in your ability to maintain focus, be comfortable and feel safe. It’s also nice to have a way to take notes, perhaps with a paper and pen handy, to write anything down as it comes up. You may also want a glass of water or some tissues nearby.

  2. How to End Denial and Heal with Tapping  — To be able to heal anything, you must first identify your dissatisfaction. You can ask yourself, “What do I want and what is stopping me?” Naming your obstacle can help end your pattern of denial and lead to your being able to feel and heal it. It’s important that are able to wrap your mind around exactly which incidents from your life may be calling out for the most healing. Remember, NAME it and RE-CLAIM it!
  3.  How to Track your Tapping Progress — Review and rate the emotional intensity you’re feeling towards your issue on a scale from 1-10, where 10 is the highest intensity. Note it is OK for you to just guess what your number may really be. You may not be feeling the full impact of it just now. This number will usually decrease as you Tap and address the underlying feelings and memories associated with this issue. Tracking how the intensity is shifting gives you confidence that something is happening! If your intensity rises some, remain calm. This often happens just before it decreases. When you stay with it for a little while, breathing and Tapping, it will drop down significantly. Remember, BREATHE, TAP and FEEL!
  4. One Way to Gain Access to an Issue using Tapping — Who else in your family has similar issues or feelings? You may or may not be aware of how much like your family or your parents you are! Generally people either accidentally DUPLICATE the habits and emotional reactions of their parents or they go in the OPPOSITE direction as a reaction. Taking the opposite path of an extreme leads to another extreme! You can start to see yourself as the innocent child you were by asking yourself, “Who in my family has similar issues, attitudes or feelings?” You simply began to mimic what was in the surrounding environment, doing the best you could with the limited choices you had at that time. Often stepping into the perspective of another can make it easier to stop blaming or shaming yourself (or projecting blame and shame on your parents as a similar trauma may have happened to them). You can get down to CLEARING IT ALL with EFT… for everyone involved.
  5. How to Deal with Strong Emotions during Tapping
    • Remember to BREATHE. Exhale with an audible sigh. Notice your jaw, open and relax.
    • Relax towards the feelings instead of pulling away or bracing yourself against them.
    • ACCEPT WHAT YOU FEEL for 30 seconds. Check your emotional intensity scale again. When you can simply be with and accept what you discover while you Tap, the emotional intensity will begin to fade away – usually quite quickly. Your issue will heal.

  6. How Forgiveness Frees You Personally —  Forgiveness for what happened to you in the past can actually save you from having to replay the same exhausting scenarios again and again! If you do not feel you’re ready to forgive right now, then simply allow the possibility of forgiveness happening… eventually. Remember, the act of forgiveness does NOT mean condoning or justifying any actions or behaviors. Whether directed towards you or towards another, the purpose and benefit is releasing the trapped energy in your life, body and relationships. You do want to dissolve these patterns. Forgiveness sets you FREE!

  1. How to Create Your Positive Outcomes with Tapping — Create positive outcomes while Tapping only after the emotional intensity has dropped to around a 4 or less on your 1-10 intensity scale. After the intensity decreases, you can more easily recall and state your positive affirmations. Keep Tapping and saying your affirmations for about 5 minutes or so. You are actually using the positive to completely clear the negative. You can reprogram your subconscious to optimize your positive outcome. For example, you could say, “I am trusting myself,” or “I am safe,” or “I receive love easily.” Use whatever statements work best for you. As you say your positive statements out loud, breathe deeply after each one. Connect emotionally to your positive statements while you are Tapping.
  2. How to Release any Fear of Being In Your Power with Tapping — There seems to be a general fear we all share about becoming too clear, too powerful or even too ALIVE. The best remedy for this fear is to use EFT to Tap through it! I recommend making a list of all your “What if” and “Yeah but” statements. List your worst-case scenarios about going to the next level and becoming more successful, healthier, stronger, and truly aligned. Then use EFT to clear the charge on the negative thoughts for the entire list. This will help you step up and claim your power while feeling safe to BE your True Self.
  3. What to Say When You Tap — A common question when using EFT is “What do I say?” Remember that there is no right or wrong thing to say to yourself when Tapping. The most important thing is to SAY WHAT IS TRUE FOR YOU RIGHT NOW.
  4. Use these four guidelines to create the flow of a solid Tapping session:
    • ACCEPT your issue and what you are feeling, thinking or experiencing. For example:I accept that I don’t know what to say while I Tap.”
    • RECOGNIZE and accept any resistance that comes up. For example:If I knew what to say, I would use EFT more… and then I might change too quickly.”
    • CHOOSE to move towards what you would rather be experiencing. For example:I’m open to being intuitively guided while I Tap.”
    • AFFIRM what you DO want to experience. For example: “I know how to do this intuitively.”
